What resolution are Midjourney images?
According to Midjourney's documentation (consulted October 4, 2026; the page shows an update on July 27, 2026), V8.2 standard definition (SD) images start at 1024 × 1024 px at the default aspect ratio, and its Creative and Subtle upscalers take them to 2048 × 2048 px. HD images are generated at 2048 × 2048 px and “currently cannot be upscaled further”. Other aspect ratios change the size:

The first three columns are Midjourney's figures; the last one is our arithmetic (each side × 3). Midjourney notes that exact HD dimensions in some ratios may vary slightly, and that images from earlier versions have different sizes and upscalers.
Why upscale Midjourney images before selling them?
Midjourney's own upscale lands between 4.2 and 4.8 MP in the ratios above. Adobe Stock's official minimum is 4 MP, so the margin is thin: any crop, or a slightly different ratio, can put the file under it. A prudent target for AI images is roughly 6–16 MP, which a 2x or 3x upscale reaches comfortably. We explain the size rules in Adobe Stock minimum resolution.
Midjourney itself points this way: “Need a larger image than what Midjourney offers? No worries! There are plenty of third-party upscaling tools”. It also notes that its upscalers use your subscription's GPU minutes, and that Creative “will change your image a bit as it adds new details”, while Subtle keeps changes to a minimum.
Which route is better: Midjourney's upscaler first, or straight to Stock Creatives?

How do I upscale AI generated images from other tools?
The method is the same for any generator: check the size you actually have, pick the smallest factor that reaches your target and review at 100%. What changes is the starting point, because output sizes differ from tool to tool and version to version. How do I upscale Midjourney images?+
Use Midjourney's Subtle or Creative upscale for a 2x result, or upload the file to an upscaler such as Stock Creatives for 2x, 3x or 4x. Review the result at 100% before you use it.
What resolution are Midjourney images?+
In V8.2, standard images are 1024 × 1024 px at the default 1:1 ratio, and the upscaled or HD version is 2048 × 2048 px, according to Midjourney's documentation (consulted October 4, 2026). Other ratios and older versions differ.
Can Midjourney upscale to 4K?+

Subtle or Creative upscale: which one for stock?+
Subtle, as a starting point: Midjourney says it keeps changes to a minimum, while Creative changes the image a bit. Whichever you use, check hands, eyes and text at 100%.
